The Waveney Valley regional growth project could be at risk according to a new survey.
The Local Government Group EU Funding Survey for 2011 has found that many Councils in England are not confident about being able to match the funding for European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) projects. The survey names Waveney Valley as one of the projects at risk.
Wayne David MP, Labour’s Shadow Europe Minster, said:
"This is a clear example of the Government’s cuts hitting the poorest areas hardest. This EU money was intended to give a boost to areas facing some of the toughest economic conditions in the country. But thanks to the Government’s programme of cuts - too far too fast - it looks like English towns and cities could be missing out.
“This is a double whammy for hard pressed areas. Many local councils are suffering cuts and because of those cuts they cannot draw down European money.”
