Tories’ snub to Suffolk is slap in the face to the County Suffolk’s Labour MP has reacted angrily to the Conservatives latest snub to the County over the selection of Conservative candidates for the Suffolk West constituency. It has been reported that West Suffolk Conservatives have short-listed six people to become the Tory candidate for the seat- and that not one of them has a connection to Suffolk, despite strong interest from several local Tories.
Labour’s Ipswich MP, Chris Mole said: “For the Tories to turn around and say that Suffolk residents shouldn’t get the chance to stand as their Party’s candidate, whilst bringing six people onto the shortlist who don’t have any connection to the county is an affront to our area. “It makes a mockery of their claims to want to put power in the hands of local people and it shows that what David Cameron really wants from his future MPs are a tightly knit group of loyal apparatchiks. “Of course, occasionally the best candidate might be from elsewhere, but to ignore the local people who do put themselves forward just smacks of an arrogant Conservative Party.” | |
