Tendring Councillor Jack Parsons has joined the Labour Party after defecting from UKIP.
Cllr Parsons has joined after becoming disillusioned with Paul Nuttall's increasingly right-wing UKIP and believes that only Labour can stand up for working class people and secure proper funding for the NHS.
The Labour Group in Clacton has warmly welcomed Cllr Parsons and looks forward to working with him to represent his constituents in St Paul's Ward.
A statement by Cllr Parsons can be found below:
"UKIP seemed new and exciting when I joined. But their views on the NHS and cutting taxes for the rich have proved to me and others that it is only Labour who will stand up for working people and campaign to protect vital services in the face of Tory cuts.
"UKIP's new leader has welcomed the privatisation of the NHS, so it is clear that UKIP pose a real threat to the future of the NHS.
"Labour have made fighting to protect the NHS a key priority, and that is just one reason why I know the Labour Party is my home.
"My constituents in St Paul's ward will continue to be my number one priority. And I believe they will be much better served if I campaign to end this Tory government in the only way possible- by electing a Labour government."
