Concentrate on a real plan for economic growth - John Kent

John Kent, Leader, Thurrock CouncilCllr John Kent, Labour Leader of Thurrock Council, responding to Vince Cable's visit to the site of the new international port at Corringham today, said:

"I welcome today's announcement and the extra jobs the new port will bring to Thurrock, but let us be clear this development and these jobs were secured under Labour. It was a Labour Government who supported Thurrock Council's work to find a company to invest in a new port and it was Labour Transport Ministers who ensured the necessary legislation was passed to make the port possible.

"Families in Thurrock are facing a cost of living crisis and are anxious about what the future holds for their children. They want Vince Cable and the Tory-led Government to concentrate on a real plan for economic growth not on trying to take credit for jobs and investment Labour helped bring to Thurrock."
