Claire Ward tells David Cameron what she thinks of his letter

Watford's Labour MP, Claire Ward, had a bit of surprise this week when she opened a letter addressed to her at the family home in central Watford...

It was a personal message from Conservative leader, David Cameron, asking for her views on the National Health service.  The letter was headed "I'll cut the deficit - not the NHS."

Ms Ward - who is also a Government minister -said: "Mr Cameron says he wants to make sure that survival rates for conditions like cancer are amongst the best in the world but this is the man who refuses to match Labour’s Cancer Guarantee.

He also says he wants to know what I think .Well I think the election of a Tory MP and a Tory Government would be a disaster for the people of Watford. It would put the redevelopment of our hospital at risk. The Tories are more interested in giving inheritance tax cuts worth £200,000 to the richest 3000 people but it is the people of Watford who would have to foot the bill.

I am delighted that the Tories are so out of touch in Watford that they are writing to the sitting Labour MP to ask for my opinion . I am happy to give it – vote Labour to protect our local hospital."
