New figures show that the East of England is healthier with Labour

New statistics released yesterday by the Department of Health show that the Eastern Region is healthier today as a result of Labour’s investment in the NHS.

The East of England health profile shows that on key indicators the region’s health is improving.

Since 2006:

- Life expectancy at birth has improved by almost 6 months

- Deaths from cancer have fallen 4.1%

- Smoking deaths are down 10.5%

- Infant deaths are down 6.8%.

Labour’s Minister for the East of England, Barbara Follett MP said:

"These figures tell the story of hard work and success in our NHS and are great news for patients and families.

"The improvements in life expectancy, coupled with fewer deaths from smoking and cancer and improved infant survival rates are excellent news for NHS patients in the East of England.

"These are not just dry statistics, but represent a better quality and length of life and show the difference that the NHS is making to people's lives in the East of England.

"On the 60th anniversary of Labour setting up the NHS, this news is a sign that our investment in the nation's health is paying off. We know that there is still more to do, and Labour will keep working to ensure the best NHS for every patient."
