Chris Mole MP today welcomed the announcement of £52,632 of Government funding to boost Ipswich’s shopping streets.

The funding, which has now been given the go-ahead by Communities Secretary John Denham, will help local authorities adapt boarded up high street stores for other uses. For example, a meeting centre for local people or a space for local artists to exhibit.

By putting the high street back at the centre of community life, this groundbreaking scheme will attract more people to Ipswich’s shopping streets – allowing them to thrive once more.

Ipswich MP Chris Mole said:

"This funding will have an important impact to help keep Ipswich’s shopping streets looking their best.

"Investors say that boarded-up shops undermine their confidence when considering investment in an area. This funding will offset these concerns by breathing life back into our shopping streets.

"I look forward to seeing community activities thrive across our town as a result."
